Doesn’t it always work, that you have to open your wallet for unexpected expenses at the WORST time ever??!! This month we’ve each had traffic tickets (the dumb ones that you think, SERIOUSLY!?!?), medical bills for an emergency room visit for Addie (that turned out well, thank goodness!), and this weekend….replacing my makeup bag…
Now any girl reading this KNOWS that replacing your makeup bag is painful! I don’t even want to add the cost up…the designer bag itself (which was a gift), the amazing brushes (that were a gift), and the priceless collection of makeup inside that had been carefully collected and now represented MY FACE….oh it is just so sad…I waited an entire week (looking like a walking zombie and attending meetings wearing sunglasses, but finally bit the bullet this past Sunday and replaced only the essentials.
For the back story…The bag is normally in my car (as it’s the ONLY place I actually have 5 minutes to put my face on, and the only time I’m going somewhere that someone might care what I look like – or that I would be mortified if I saw someone without my face!) But somehow between Saturday night and Monday morning (although the car was never driven off our driveway) the bag disappeared. Both my husband and I are completely stumped and have searched everywhere…still totally disbelieving that it could have been taken from the car, but also knowing that there aren’t many places it could hide in our house and we both remember it being in the car…..so sad…..guess it’s Merry Christmas to me!
The only good that has come out of this, is that you now get a post on the replacement make-up!

Shanna, I would *DIE* immediately if anything happened to my makeup bag!!! Ack!!! But at least it led to a helpful post. These are fantastic gift ideas. Except I kind of want to buy this all for myself…Especially want to get that MAC Eyeshadow Palette and brush set. Those prices are awesome!
Love the NARS blush! A hint for anyone suffering from old acne scars like me: If you love the color of Orgasm but don’t want a blush with shimmer (not always the best if you have scars–it can make them even more apparent), the NARS Amour blush is very similar but is a satin matte finish. I also love and use the NARS Orgasm lip gloss! Love love love.
Shanna, I think I love your blog more every day…

This has happened to me. It is the WORST. Last May my husband and I flew to Arizona on vaction. the airline list his golf clubs which also had my mmakeup bag with them!! Our two most prized possessions (well except for our kids). Luckily the insurance covered the cost eventually but i had no makeup for our whole vacation and a good few weeks after that. Total nightmare.
At costco right now they have a fabulous huge collection box of Kirkland makeup brushes by Borghese for only $20. they certainly arent as good as the MAC brushes but they would do great to supplement your collection until you can buy new ones one by one. They are actually pretty good and there is every different kind!

Nothing is as good as the MAC brushes and they last forever. A couple of additions La Mer foundation – so light and not oily and Laura Mercier powder with SPF 15 love it!!!

I have not tried the Laura Mercier powder – but I do love MAC’s Studio Fix! And am also a fan of the La Mer Day lotion – very light which I love! Thanks for the tips!
