mommy hasn’t learned to share

So Addie is infatuated with kitchens…refrigerators, warming drawers, toasters, utensils.  She loves to wear her little apron and *help* mom.  At 19 months it is not always easy to find safe things for her to do.  The other day I looked at my husband feeling soooo guilty (it had been one of those not so fun days of trying to keep her off the kitchen counters and out of the warming drawer, which has become both her step stool and her secret toy hiding place).  I told him I felt the same as when you get upset at a puppy for chewing your shoes, but then you realize he had no toys to play with…

Now Addie is not lacking in toys, but I am a little to blame with my current situation since I’m not a huge fan of large plastic kid toys.  As I’ve said before, if it can fit in with the decor AND my kids love it, then I’m totally game.  But we don’t have a huge home with a separate play room, so the main Great Room/Dining Area/Kitchen/We-all-live-in-it 24×7 Room is where the toys are, and as such, why I’m not a fan of tons of large plastic toys (I know, I’m going to Mom Hell…)

SOOOOOO, back to how I created my own problem.  By not giving Addie her own big fun toys (she’s kind of grown out of the smaller toys) she wants to play with my toys. And I’m not big on sharing the stove, oven, microwave, or particualry – my wine glass, YET.

I’ve decided Christmas this year (f I can wait that long) will be about giving the girls their own cute play things (Sweet Hayden is getting lumped in with this gift because I know she will be there so soon – makes me sad and happy all at the same time!!)

Here are a few cute kitchens I’ve been looking at for their holiday gift.  Can you believe how far toys have come!!

I’m hoping that Addie will want to go to the store before anyone is awake yet & pick up lots of groceries

[singlepic id=275 w=320 h=240 float=center]

[singlepic id=233 w=320 h=240 float=center]

Then she will come home and make us breakfast

[singlepic id=229 w=320 h=240 float=center]

And pour us a big glass of juice

[singlepic id=246 w=320 h=240 float=center]

Then maybe she will put on her apron

[singlepic id=260 w=320 h=240 float=center]

And make us a sandwich for lunch

[singlepic id=232 w=320 h=240 float=center]

Then maybe a little while later after we play, she might take out her pots and pans

[singlepic id=231 w=320 h=240 float=center]

And decide to throw something together for dinner, I’m hoping for pizza!

[singlepic id=230 w=320 h=240 float=center]

And if we are REALLY good, then maybe she might even give us ice cream for dessert!

[singlepic id=221 w=320 h=240 float=center]

The only thing missing was when she might pour me my glass of wine….I can’t figure out why I can’t find that toy online….Oh well!  One can always dream!

Hope this helps you find some fun imagination kitchen play for your Little’s too!  Be sure to check out the Family Favorites Gallery.  I’ve been trying to get it filled with some funtoys for the Littles!  We do not have all of these toys, but I will add comments as we do have experiences with some of them.  Others we just wish we had!

Last but not least….our very formal drawing…

yeah….have so much fun with all those millions and millions of food, utensils, etc. I know you are organized so I am sure you will come up with a great way to deal with it. After Holland got her first kitchen I went nuts with all the “food”. Now it is nice and organized AWAY from her reach so it may only be played with when I say so and picked up when she is done….oh and the kitchen has migrated to being an outdoor toy now too (the ONLY benefit of plastic). that makes mommy happy!

Thankfully I think we’ll put this in the playroom! And anything has to be easier than keeping up with my own kitchen being torn apart half the time and scattered around the house :-) Oh the things we do, the lives we lead!! Keep smiling!

I am SO glad that I am not the only one with a kid that is constantly in the kitchen drawers!! My Bug is just infatuated with the contents of my kitchen and it makes me crazy! Those wooden toy kitchen items are amazing! We bought the drama queen a few of them for Christmas last year, they’re so cool!

These pics are adorable and can’t believe how funny it is that they are climbing into everything. My niece has her own kitchen as well as market and must say she keeps out of my sister’s kitchen ;-) Good luck…hope it keeps them away from your toys!
