when the “IT” hits the fan

In getting ready for Baby #3 in 7 weeks (SOOOO NOT FUNNY!  The day will be here WAYYYY too soon!) I’ve started checking over things that may need to be replaced or triplicated (no need to actually UNPACK anything as our Littles are still so LITTLE, AGGGGH!)

Anyway, as I go through things, I’m reminded of GOOD ADVICE I have received in the past.  My sister has a darling 3 year old boy, and a brother 14 months younger who she was pregnant with at the same time I was pregnant with Addie.  It made my life a whole lot easier because who better to have than your own sister to recommend and give you advice on what you need for your first baby.  And since she had just been through it, it was all very familiar and current to her.

On her advice, I bought the Clouds and Stars QuickZip Sheet Set and LOVE them.  PRAISE them.  CANNOT say enough FAVORITE, FABULOUS things about them. They are a life saver more times than not. I can (or  My Right Hand can) very easily change the crib sheets each week for the girls.  Or Heaven forbid there is an accident of some form – again SUPER SIMPLE to change it all out.

My quick story for you.

I went on a girls’ overnight when Hayden was about 4 months old and Addie was 15 mos.  My girlfriends and I took advantage of a local hotel deal and sat by the pool, drank yummy cocktails (that our hubbies called and sent to us), ordered room service (that our hubbies spoiled us with), ate yummy desserts (that our hubbies didn’t want to know about), and overall pampered ourselves for the day and night.  SUCH a nice break away.  The next morning we woke up and headed to lattes and a long leisurely brunch before heading back to reality.  I arrived home SO RELAXED and ready to conquer the next hurdle.

And good thing I was.

I hear Addie talking in her crib and look at hubby totally confused as she should have been SOUND asleep for her nap….we went in to check on her…I can’t even begin to explain, other than to say that she had gotten her diaper off and “IT” was “EVERYWHERE”. All over her sheets, the spindles of her crib, the grooves of the wainscoting on the wall, her hair, EVERYWHERE.  Hubby couldn’t even stand in the room….

My point to this particular story is that the crib sheet was actually the EASIEST part of the clean up.  Clouds and Stars QuickZip Sheets are like a reverse fitted sheet.  The body of the sheet goes under the crib mattress, and then you zip a flat top sheet on top of this.  The zippers are big and plastic and hidden under a little flange.  I think it takes all of about 5-10 minutes to change a sheet.  I have 1 body sheet and 3 top sheets.  I wash the body sheet every few months or so as that requires removing the mattress, and I zip in a top sheet at least once a week for a clean sheet.

DO NOT USE ANY OTHER CRIB SHEET, unless you want the HEADACHE of pulling out a heavy crib mattress every time you want to change the sheet!  I HIGHLY, STRONGLY, COMPLETELY recommend them!

Oh gross :) I wish I had those sheets when we were in a crib – we just graduated to a big girl bed, wonder if they make twin sizes for those surprise barf moments… :)

I’m pretty sure they do!! Check the Clouds and Stars website. The link is at the bottom of the post. But I don’t think they go larger than twin…

Love these….I just had my first and had no idea how much of a pain changing sheets in a crib could be! One question though…what do you do about a mattress pad? It kind of defeats the purpose if I have to take the whole mattress out to change that anyway. Tips!?!?

I wash the mattress pad when I do the bottom sheet every few months. I use a waterproof mattress pad with a large, flat multi use pad between it and the top sheet from babies r us. So its just 2 flat things that I need to remove and wash. This is a link to similar ones at BRU,

They don’ t sell the ones I have, online. Mine are completely plain with no ridges, quilting or patterns. I REALLY like them as they don’t pill and stand up really well to washes. They are the BRU, “Especially for Baby” brand as well. Hope this helps!!

Can only say….been there…and feel for you! Babysitting 4 kids, the youngest “down for her nap” or so I thought. She was NOT, she was wide awake, playing with lots of her “IT” and she did NOT have the Clouds and Stars Quick Zip Sheet…I WISH SHE DID! Thanks for the post, but no thanks for the memories…haaaaa!

As an “experienced” mom, I thought I knew what I needed when my third child came almost 10 years after my second…but baby stuff just keeps getting better. I was lucky enough to get these sheets from Shanna as a shower gift (along with lots of other favorites) and LOVE them. I love them even more after the flu bug my daughter had last week. Changing sheets 2x a day for 5 or 6 days is no fun…but these made it almost easy (except for the time she threw up down the corner of the bed and soaked through all the way to the dust ruffle…but no fixing that). Thanks Shanna!

Thanks for the tip! I bet these come in super handy when you’re potty training, too! I’ll have to pick one of these up for Will! Thanks for the tip!

These sound good, but I must tell you the one I use I LOVE. It is called The Ultimate Crib sheet, and it has elastic and snaps and snaps around the spindles in the crib. The reason I like it so much is because you can have your cute crib sheet that matches your bumpers (Serena and Lily- LOVE), and you never have to change it. You can’t see the white (soft on one side and waterproof on the other) sheet the baby sleeps on from the outside, only the attractive, matching one. And it can be changed in 5 min flat. Anyway, worth checking out, like you, I have 3 and rotate them weekly, or as needed. Oh, and they wash wonderfully, I’m still using the same 3 for baby #2.

OH-MY-GOSH!!! HOW DID YOU GETAWAY WITH A 4 & 15MOS OLD!??? That is a talent… I feel guilty every time I need to step out of the house form my 16mos old, eek, you inspire me… I need a girls getaway!!!

DOUBLE OH-MY-GOSH!!! THESE SHEETS… WHERE HAVE THEY BEEN ALL MY LIFE… or at least for the last 16mos!? I always told my hubby that if I could create a way to help other moms not kill themselves to change crib sheets without hauling out the mattress every time… I’d be a millionaire!

Thanks SOOO much for this post! One of your best yet!
