my seven

Being almost 3 months old in the blogger world, there have been MANY new things to learn and introductions made!  It’s been fun AND challenging!  Exciting AND frusterating, the learning curve is HUGE!  But the one very positive and consistent thing I’ve found is the blogger community.  Some of you visit MFE as readers, and as friends, or as an occasional passerby and some as fellow bloggers.  Being so new to the blogger world, I had NO IDEA until I got here the kind of support and friendships you can make with people that you have never even met in person!  They are all so willing to help answer questions, offer suggestions or help you promote a post.  Truly inspiring!  You are all incredible and I’m so thankful for the support, encouragement, suggestions, and friendships new and old.

This morning I was tagged by a very fun blogger, Theta Mom, in “My Seven”.  Heather at Theta Mom is a very cool mom with a great writing style and fun posts.  She has been a wonderful new blogger friend “to meet and get to know” these past few months.  Stop by her site and check things out!

So here is my assignment:

I must describe seven things about myself (seven things you don’t already know) and then tag seven others to do the same (if they are willing to accept the challenge).

Here’s my seven….

1. I’m Canadian.  My family moved to California when I was 4, but growing up, we returned every summer to our family’s lake house in a super remote area.  The kids that we grew up with each summer were, and still are, our extended family!  I hope that our kids will one day be able to share that same kind of amazing and true friendship!   I have 2 sisters and we were basically the “California Girls” on the lake, the rest were “the boys”!  Additionally, as our true extended family all live in Canada, summers were the time we got to spend with our cousins, aunts, uncles, & grandparents.  It was a very special time and a unique part of our childhood.  I hope to share the same thing with my growing family.  I took both girls for their first trip this past May and can’t wait to go back again for them to form friendships with the next generation!  They had a blast playing with the toys we used to play with!

2. I don’t like to celebrate my birthday. When I was turning 29, I decided to go BIG as this was “the end” in my book.  I hosted a “29 and Holding” Party that was a fabulous!  My goal was to make everyone else have to perform in some way over dinner so that the attention was never on me.  Worked like a charm. At 29+1 we did a repeat show, 29+2 was a BBQ that friends hosted, but at 29+3 I mellowed a bit.  My sisters surprised me with a weekend of sister love in San Francisco.  Then 29+4 came around and I just didn’t want to do anything major that year.  For some reason a quiet birthday sounded better. So I asked my then boyfriend if we could just get a pizza and watch the sunset down at the beach.  It ended up being the night he proposed! So we have done the exact same thing every year since…we have the same wine glasses and the same bottle of wine…and I LOVE the tradition!

3. My FAVORITE candy bar is from Canada (of course!) It’s called a Wunderbar and there is NOTHING else like it!  Super yummy chocolate, caramel, peanut butter goodness!  If we are driving and I have crossed the border and forgotten to buy one, I WILL TURN BACK!

4. My hubby and I were married at the Mauna Kea, in Hawaii 3 weeks after the big earthquake 3 1/2 years ago.  Not exactly one of the things you worry about when planning a destination wedding!  But it all worked, we had an unforgettable week with friends and family that we will never forget!  Though I blame (& thank) all pregnant people at that wedding for the incredible fertility hubby and I have!!!

To explain…our photographer, our wedding coordinator and 6 of my bridesmaids were all pregnant!! Thanks (I think) girls!!

(BTW – Need to credit the photo to Liz Banfield, our amazing wedding photographer….hope to do a post on her soon…stay tuned! Liz was 8 mos pregnant at our wedding!)

5. Both of our girls have red hair.  Not exactly something you don’t know if you visit this site regularly, but what we learned was that in order to have red hair, both sides have to have it.  (Neither Hubby nor I do). Not sure who it comes from on my hubby’s side, but my Dad found out around Addie’s first birthday that his dad had had red hair!  (As shocking as this may seem to you, my Dad had only seen black and white photos of his father who had died when my dad was very young).  This was especially dear to me, as Addie’s middle name is Eve after my Dad’s mom.  It’s a special tie-in to his, and my, side of the family.

6. I love to shoot skeet and trap.  All future boyfriends of our girls should be afraid, not of hubby, but of ME.  That shot gun will be in Mama’s hands and she means business! You mess with them, you mess with me, and I DON’T MISS…seriously!

7. I don’t like to eat salad. SOOOO random I know, and you would think living by the beach in Southern California that I would and should, but don’t.  I wish I did.  It’s the equivalent of eating paper to me.  (So sorry to all you salad lovers!!)  So if you ever see a recipe for salad on this site, if will ALWAYS be FILLED with lots of other STUFF or have a really good dressing on it!  Just can’t eat them any other way.  I’m a meat, potato, veggie kinda girl!

The next part of this tag is to pass this on to 7 other Bloggers…I’m listing 7 other AWESOME bloggers I have gotten to know over the past few weeks and months!  Please visit their sites and see what makes them all so amazing!

Happy 3-month blogiversary! No one would ever be able to guess that you are a “newbie” – your blog space looks FANTASTIC!

Your wedding photo is absolutely stunning, by the way. I wore an off-the-shoulder dress too…love that style.

Also: it’s very cool that you can shoot a gun with such accuracy and precision. That is on my “to-do” list. I know the basics of handling a gun, but I’m not particularly well-practiced… ;)

Loved reading these! gorgeous wedding picture. were you surprised to have 2 with red hair? I am also a redhead, and I always thought it came from my Grandma (dad’s side) who had red hair – it was not until I was like 25 that I learned that she had dyed it red all those years!! Now it is looking like my little girl might be a redhead too.
