I know it’s all about my family this week, but then that’s what this blog does is show you how our family functions in the chaos of it all!
You may have noticed that I’ve been lagging a bit on email and comment responses…but there has been so much to take care of with Birthdays, Birthday Parties, Holidays, getting ready for the the new baby, this blog, work, and lack of sleep from sick Littles that I’ve been falling farther and farther behind. Hopefully you’ll except me as human rather that throwing stones, but I still have to apologize as I wish that I could do better for you all!
Onto today’s post. Simple magic moments...
Hayden’s real birthday was Tuesday. And in my book, birthdays, holidays, anything of the sort should be special. It doesn’t need to be over the top. I don’t think many of us are Arron Spelling and able to ship in fresh snow for a white Christmas morning….but there are usually other more economical ways of making something seem magical and memorable no matter the age of your Littles.
For Hay’s birthday morning I swung an arm over at hubby around 6:15AM:
Me: “Hon, can you go to Ralphs and get Hay’s balloons we talked about last night?”
Hubby, half asleep: “Huh, you need me to get a bottle for Hay?”
Me: “No the balloons for her room.”
Hubby, still half asleep: “You need Bafoons?”
Me: “No, No, the BALLOONS for her room.”
Hubby, more than half asleep rolls out of bed slowly puts a cap on his head, “Where? What? Huh…..What am I getting and where??”
Me: “A dozen pink balloons, from Ralphs. It’s the only place open for balloons this early, hurry!”
And off he went. (He’s a GOOD dad!)
Then Addie, Dada and Mama all woke Hayden up at 7AM with LOADS of birthday balloons and hugs, I like to think it looked like magic to her, it was magic to Addie.
For a mere $8 and a little less sleep in the morning for Dada, Hay had an excellent start to celebrate her first birthday.
This is a totally doable, easy treat that I think even your non Little 14 year old might like. I used to do it for my parents’ hotel rooms when they would visit me in college for parents’ weekends. Nothing like a few balloons to make you feel like a kid again!
Happy Birthday Hay!

We’ve been decorating our kids rooms since they were babies on their birthdays. Before we would go to bed at night, when the kids had already fallen asleep, we would go in and decorate with streamers, signs and balloons. It was the first things they saw when they woke up and it was a great way to start their birthday. The older two girls, even though they are away at college, have birthdays while they are home and we still decorate their rooms too! It’s a great tradition.

I love any excuse to celebrate. This is a wonderful idea. We always have a birthday breakfast and have balloons on the table, but I love the concept of having them in the room when they wake up. So cute!
By the way… stopping by from SITS.

Your daughter looks so happy with her birthday balloons! I did this in February too – for my 10 year old. I also added a spider web of streamers to trap her in bed :) It took me an hour of rolling around on her floor in the dark..my husband thought I was nuts, but she was sooo excited when she woke up & saw it!
Here from SITS…love your blog :)

What a simple little treat. It’s the small things our children will remember. We haven’t had balloons in the house for a while. May have to stop and get some today and put on their bedposts for when they come home after school. Let them know I was thinking about them today. Thanks so much.

What a darling idea. You can tell that she is just enchanted with the balloons. I used to tie a helium balloon to my baby’s foot so it would bounce around when he kicked and wiggled and it would keep him entertained for long periods of time, but I never thought to get a whole bunch of them. What a fun idea.
