Battle of the Belly Bulge

So instead of posting a meal plan today, I wanted to let you all know what plan of attack I plan on taking to fight my 3 years of baby lbs.  I saw this segment one morning on the Today Show and it looked interesting to me for a few reasons:

  1. It gave me a cookbook with photos and recipes to choose from.
  2. There were meals that I could make for everyone in my family.
  3. The diet targets BELLY FAT, HELLO!  Isn’t that the major issue here!?!?
  4. You can lose 15lbs in 32 days – um, yeah, SIGN ME UP!
  5. Oh, and the focus is on making healthy food choices for your family that don’t make you feel like you’re depriving  yourself.  Seriously, go watch the video in the link above and check out the Shrimp Tacos or and the brownies, or how about the Chocolate Stuffed French Toast!  That’s what I’m talking about!!

So I ordered the Flat Belly Diet Family Cookbook and I plan to follow it for at least the next 32 days, starting Monday.  If it’s working, then we’ll go for broke until all 40 lbs are GONE!!

Do you hear me baby lbs??  GONE, G-O-N-E, C-ya later GONE! (I type that, by the way, while I am smelling the Trader Joe’s brownies that just came out of the oven…kinda figured we might as well enjoy our last weekend….cough, cough…just sayin’)

I have to say, I’ve been impressed with the book so far and am coming up with some meal plans that will work for our family and hopefully yours too.  I’m going to post what our family will be eating, but I encourage you to grab the book if you want to come up with your own plan for your family.  I will be editing and choosing meals that will be simple for my current lifestyle.  This means there may be more repetition than you may like.  I also am not a huge fish eater, so will most likely steer away from those recipes – but there are some great ones for those that like fish!

All those in with me, we are going to get it gone! This is your heads up just in case you want to read up at all about it.  There is also a 4 Day Anti Bloat Jumpstart for the diet, however it’s not included in the Family cookbook as they don’t feel it’s appropriate for kids (duh!), but what about mom??  She may want the Jumpstart!?!!?  I’ve ordered the book that this is included in and will post it as soon as it arrives so we can all get this party started.

Until then, get hydrated and start drinking 2 liters of water a day (that’s about 8 1/2 cups) of their Sassy Water:

2 liters of water
1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
1 medium cucumber, peeled & sliced
1 medium lemon, sliced
12 small spearmint leaves or fresh mint

Combine all ingredients in a large pitcher and allow the flavors to blend overnight.  (Feel free to add more or less, or omit anything on the list).

Comment below and let me know if your in with the BATTLE of the BELLY FAT BULGE. I’ll pick one reader with Random.org on Sunday to send a copy of the cookbook too.

Happy weekend, enjoy it as reality is coming on Monday!

  1. I’m in, Shanna! Best of luck!

FYI for you and your readers… I lost almost 50 lbs several years ago using this book: The Formula by Gene and Joyce Daoust (very similar to The Zone diet)… very easy meal plans to follow with regular ingredients, and lots of kid-friendly options as well. I’ve used The Formula hard core after each of my pregnancies and it’s never failed me! There’s even a recipe for GREAT New York style cheesecake!

  2. I did the 4 day anti bloat that this diet starts out with twice and both times I did it I lost 4-5lbs. Its 1200 calories per day with a pre planned shopping list. They want you to give up coffee because it disrupts your GI tract. I tried that for the first day and by the second day I was drinking coffee again, I felt horrible without it. My second time doing the 4 day anti bloat about 3 weeks ago I lost another 5 ponds and it does takes inches off your stomach. I didn’t stay with the diet after the first 4 days but I have maintained my weight loss. Good luck to you on this diet, you will do great!!

  3. I am in! Definitely post the anti bloat jumpstart!! Can’t wait. Thanks for the motivation.

  4. I’m laughing so hard because I thought the water would be great…with a little vodka in it! :-)

  13. I have 40lbs to lose to and I can’t wait to follow along with you. Lately, I was trying to cut out carbs at night and that was making me feel so deprived. I want something that is actually doable and family friendly. Thank you so much for sharing.

  14. Sign me up! Sign me up! I am definitely going to stick with you with this diet. I think we will go all the way. Belly Bulge! Here we come!

  15. OK. My drop weight plan is starting smaller as to not overwhelm me. (I am so good at excuses, right?) Since I am an ultra-competitive person, I challenged all my co-workers to a Drink More Water Challenge. It started Friday and we were all such dorks about it. We are probably all going to drown from drinking so much. It looks like I am not the only competitive person in the department. Every time someone got up to go to the water cooler, the rest of us felt the pressure. It was fun and hilarious and DEFINITELY helped me leave the soda alone and pick up the water!

  16. I’m so in! I have about 40 lbs. to lose from my belly, also. I’m looking forward to reading about your efforts!

  17. I’m in. I need to do something. I just can’t lose the weight around the belly…I have picked this book up a few time to look at it. I think it’s time I buy one. Thanks and good luck. :)

  18. Sounds intriguing! Why can’t you just drink plain water. What’s with the ginger, etc.? Hey, anything to rid my hips of the 10 lb weights that my 2nd baby left on his way out.
