I hate carrying a diaper bag. I’m always on the look out for any other possible bag that I can carry that will do the same job, but lets me feel like I’m still pre-kids (even though I love ‘em to pieces!!).
A very smart girlfriend (who is always in the know on new and fun things – she brought us the Sally Hansen Nail Finisher, and the Bandera Clone Cornbread.…bet you’re glad I have such cool friends!)Â Anyway, she shuffles about her day with 1 darling little girl, so her bag options are a little different than mine.
This is her go-to bag from Le Sportsac:
Do you all remember Le Sportsac??? Kind of conjours up images of Member’s Only jackets and 80s fun…but in all seriousness, she was showing us this bag, and I was sold! As she explained she could put her phone and keys in a pocket, money in a pocket, and a couple diapers with wipes in a pocket and then strap the whole bag over her head messenger style. So when she is off chasing her daughter through Fashion Island or Pretend City, she isn’t also worried about her big diaper bag, or purse constantly slipping off her shoulder.
The 3 things I loved were:
- The color – a great gold/platinum that would work with any outfit (though there are lots of other color options).
- If you packed it right, you could fold it into thirds and pack it into a bigger bag when needed.
- The price, $68 – under $100 for a good functional, fashionable bag!
Great bag and great tip! Good for all different stages of moms! Thanks C for one more great tip!

I too am not a fan of the diaper bag, currently I carry my oversized handbag. Each outing I pray that sippy cups don’t spill all over it. I would have never thought to use Le Sportsac but this one looks like it would be great to use with all the different pockets. Thanks for the tip!

Heather – I kinda of do the same, except that I found I had a cute leather Kate Spade purse/bag that I bought maybe 4 years ago. It happens to have 2 outside pockets (which my one big bag didn’t have) that are perfect for each girls bottle/sippy cup (b/c I too was dealing with the spilling!) Unfortunately they don’t sell it anymore, but its perfect!

That is pretty cute! I am right there with you…anything that makes me look and feel a little pre-kids, I’m all for!

Cute and practical! Never understood the logic behind a diaper-specific bag. Any bag will do, really — I use a trendy cotton tote (picked up for $20 at Pearl River Mart in NYC) and drop in the genius diaper-wallet-changing-pad PRONTO product by SkipHop. http://www.skiphop.com/product/202000.html
I gave my spouse a “cool-guy” messenger bag so he wouldn’t have to feel mommied-up on his excursions with out daughter sans me and the Pronto was perfect-o.
I usually gift one to expectant parents and they thank me and thank me after their baby arrives. I like that I can drop it in the bottom of the stroller and feel secure that we’re covered for an emergency.
