To find someone that truly walks beside you. Not in front, not behind, but right beside you. Who encourages you daily to be the best person that you can be. That gives everything he’s got to his family. Rolls around on the floor with his girls, then tosses them in the air twice as high. Who willingly has tea parties and wears princess crowns with his 1 and 2 year old. And then becomes a human jungle gym while checking Fantasy Football scores.
I met My Favorite Guy 7-1/2 years ago. I was in a fog at 30, really unsure of where my life was going. I knew I had been working hard, career was great, I had been dating really fun people, and from the outside life should have been near perfect. But I wasn’t happy. I felt like I had trapped myself down a road I didn’t know how to come back from. Like being on the freeway, and seeing your exit too late ~ cluesless how to get back to it.
So I stopped to re-group. I kind of put myself in a self imposed prison to figure out what I wanted out of life. And about 4 months later I came out of that fog. I called a fabulous friend who was just back from her honeymoon and said, “I want to go out!” I think it shocked her so badly she fell off her chair, scrambled to call friends, and left her new husband at home.
We wouldn’t start dating for 4 weeks after that night. But the connection had been made. If you ask either of us, we’ll tell you the same thing. Funny what you find when you’re not looking for it…
Since then we have been on a WILD roller coaster. We dated 3 1/2 years and have been married 4. We have 3 beautiful and darling baby girls. If you had asked us then where we would be now, I don’t think either of us would have given you the correct answer. But I honestly wouldn’t have wanted to miss a day of it…..well, maybe a couple of them…but most of them I would keep!!
