What is the Ikea Rug in Piper’s Room?

Hi C.!

The rug is from Ikea and is their Tarnby Flatwoven Rug.  I used a 5′ 11″ x 8′ 2″ in Piper’s Room, but it also comes in a larger 6′ 7″ x 9′ 10″ size. Unfortunately, not in a 9′ x 13′.

Another idea you could try is Natural Area Rugs.  I noticed them on Groupon recently and their prices looked pretty reasonable. I have not tried them before, but they did have some good free shipping options which would entice me to check them out!

Good luck!

incorporating good design into family living

Let’s go with a little design today.  I meant to share this article AGES ago.  The back log of posts I need to write is overwhelming to say the least, but I’m trucking through one day at a time.  Today I thought I would share a space I saw in House Beautiful in their August issue I believe (And BTW, I love when the article is also online!  So easy to refer back to).  While the home isn’t my exact style, it is still impressively decorated.

I really love 2 things about it…

  1. They have made a small space EXTREMELY FUNCTIONAL for a family of 3.
  2. They have kept their style while incorporating a place for their child to feel at home too.

I’ve said it before, and I will stand by this until the day I roll over and stop breathing, it IS possible to have a comfortable home, that is family friendly, without losing your sense style and design.  I’m not saying it’s easy to do, just that with a little thought, it is more than possible.

The use of the Stokke Tripp Trapp® Highchair in their dining area is brilliant.  While not an inexpensive chair, it’s many lives make the investment worth it.  It can go from high chair, to child’s chair / booster chair, even an adult chair.  I personally LOVE the red color.  And though I love our Phil and Ted’s MeToo Chair to keep a modern look around the table, had I seen the Stokke Chair when my 2 yo was a babe, I would have purchased for sure.  The chair can work in a traditional or modern home.  Great design, great function.  Perfect choice for this home!

Coat racks are always helpful and great use of space.  Love the little coat hanging there as well as the little chair.  My daughters LOVE to hang their coats up.  I think it gives them a feeling of belonging to this house too.  The yellow chair is darling, and again my 2 yo and 1 yo LOVE having their own little chairs.  Ikea has a lot of great options for kids chairs, here (could be painted too), and here (could add small throw pillow).  Also, the critter chair very similar to the chair in this home (we have them in black in ours).  Can’t beat $12.99

But this.

This is just awesome!

I’ve lived in some small spaces.  I’ve prided myself on the ability of being able to make almost anything fit and still remain functional.

But this tops anything I’ve ever tried to do.  For the record this bedroom is 8′ x 8′

Where oh where do you think their daughter sleeps???

But in a darling little trundle bed of course! Awesome!

Be sure to check out the article online for more fabulous photos from this fantastic LITTLE home!

(Disclosure: House Beautiful doesn’t know me, nor does this designer, nor does Stokke.  Just a cool Favorite space that I wanted to share.)

mommy hasn’t learned to share

So Addie is infatuated with kitchens…refrigerators, warming drawers, toasters, utensils.  She loves to wear her little apron and *help* mom.  At 19 months it is not always easy to find safe things for her to do.  The other day I looked at my husband feeling soooo guilty (it had been one of those not so fun days of trying to keep her off the kitchen counters and out of the warming drawer, which has become both her step stool and her secret toy hiding place).  I told him I felt the same as when you get upset at a puppy for chewing your shoes, but then you realize he had no toys to play with…

Now Addie is not lacking in toys, but I am a little to blame with my current situation since I’m not a huge fan of large plastic kid toys.  As I’ve said before, if it can fit in with the decor AND my kids love it, then I’m totally game.  But we don’t have a huge home with a separate play room, so the main Great Room/Dining Area/Kitchen/We-all-live-in-it 24×7 Room is where the toys are, and as such, why I’m not a fan of tons of large plastic toys (I know, I’m going to Mom Hell…)

SOOOOOO, back to how I created my own problem.  By not giving Addie her own big fun toys (she’s kind of grown out of the smaller toys) she wants to play with my toys. And I’m not big on sharing the stove, oven, microwave, or particualry – my wine glass, YET.

I’ve decided Christmas this year (f I can wait that long) will be about giving the girls their own cute play things (Sweet Hayden is getting lumped in with this gift because I know she will be there so soon – makes me sad and happy all at the same time!!)

Here are a few cute kitchens I’ve been looking at for their holiday gift.  Can you believe how far toys have come!!

I’m hoping that Addie will want to go to the store before anyone is awake yet & pick up lots of groceries

[singlepic id=275 w=320 h=240 float=center]

[singlepic id=233 w=320 h=240 float=center]

Then she will come home and make us breakfast

[singlepic id=229 w=320 h=240 float=center]

And pour us a big glass of juice

[singlepic id=246 w=320 h=240 float=center]

Then maybe she will put on her apron

[singlepic id=260 w=320 h=240 float=center]

And make us a sandwich for lunch

[singlepic id=232 w=320 h=240 float=center]

Then maybe a little while later after we play, she might take out her pots and pans

[singlepic id=231 w=320 h=240 float=center]

And decide to throw something together for dinner, I’m hoping for pizza!

[singlepic id=230 w=320 h=240 float=center]

And if we are REALLY good, then maybe she might even give us ice cream for dessert!

[singlepic id=221 w=320 h=240 float=center]

The only thing missing was when she might pour me my glass of wine….I can’t figure out why I can’t find that toy online….Oh well!  One can always dream!

Hope this helps you find some fun imagination kitchen play for your Little’s too!  Be sure to check out the Family Favorites Gallery.  I’ve been trying to get it filled with some funtoys for the Littles!  We do not have all of these toys, but I will add comments as we do have experiences with some of them.  Others we just wish we had!

Last but not least….our very formal drawing…
